About

About PlayaCR

We are not a travel agency, a booking engine, or a blog written from a desk 3,000 miles away. We are a small team living on the Guanacaste coast of Costa Rica, and we built PlayaCR to give visitors the information we wish we had when we first arrived.

Why We Built This

When most people plan a trip to Costa Rica, they end up on generic travel blogs with recycled info, TripAdvisor reviews from 2019, or Facebook groups where every recommendation comes with an agenda. We saw an opportunity to do it differently.

Every guide on PlayaCR is written by someone who has personally visited the beach, eaten at the restaurant, ridden on the boat, or driven the road. When we recommend a fishing charter captain, it is because we have been on his boat. When we say a restaurant is worth the drive, it is because we ate there last week.

How We Make Money

Transparency matters. Some of our recommendations include affiliate links, meaning we earn a small commission if you book through our link. This never costs you more, and it never influences which operators we recommend. We also offer a concierge service for visitors who want personalized trip planning.

We do not accept paid placements. If an operator is not good enough to recommend on its own merit, no amount of money changes that.

The Area We Cover

PlayaCR focuses on Costa Rica’s northern Pacific coast, the stretch of Guanacaste from Tamarindo north through Brasilito, Flamingo, Potrero, and the surrounding beaches. This includes Playa Conchal, Playa Grande, Sugar Beach, Playa Danta, and all the small communities in between.

We chose to go deep on one area rather than wide across the whole country. You will not find guides to Manuel Antonio or Arenal here. What you will find is the most detailed, honest, and up-to-date information about our corner of Costa Rica that exists anywhere online.
