Costa Rica luxury villa terrace dinner at sunset Pacific Guanacaste

A Costa Rica luxury villa vacation done slowly. Seven days on the Pacific Guanacaste coast, anchored at a beach-side luxury villa with your own pool, daily housekeeper, on-call private chef, in-villa spa, sunrise yoga, and a single whole-boat catamaran day. No resort, no schedule, no buffet. $15K to $50K all-in. This is the full itinerary – and the case for villa-plus-chef over any five-star Costa Rica resort.

The short version

If you have done the resort thing already and you want privacy, slowness, and food as the trip itself – this is the format. Whole villa, your pool, your kitchen, your terrace. A chef who cooks what you want when you want. Two spa sessions, one boat day, a sunset bartender for the cocktail hour. Couples, friend groups, multi-generation families. Most-booked among the 7-night trip ideas.

Why a luxury villa beats a five-star Costa Rica resort

Privacy as the headline

The whole villa is yours. Your pool, your kitchen, your terrace, your music. No hallway, no lobby, no neighbours. The first thing you exhale when you arrive.
Staff that disappear into the background

Daily housekeeper, on-call private chef, optional butler service. They are around when you need them and invisible when you do not. The opposite of resort service.
Wellness on tap

Couples and group spa sessions at the villa or beachfront. Sunrise yoga on the terrace. Sound bath, breathwork, meditation. We build a calmer week without making it feel like a retreat schedule.
Food is the trip

Chef-curated menus across the week. One night is a Costa Rican casado tasting, another is omakase-style seafood from the morning catch, another is a wood-fire steakhouse night on the terrace. You never leave the villa unless you want to.

Day 1

Arrive LIR · villa welcome · chef dinner on the terrace

Direct flight into Liberia. Private SUV transfer waiting at the gate. Sixty minutes to your villa – we have already pre-stocked the kitchen with breakfast items, fresh fruit, your wine. Welcome cocktail on the terrace from the chef. Soft 4-course dinner that night, kept simple to let you land – ceviche, lightly grilled fish, garden salad, passion fruit cheesecake. Bed early. The trip starts tomorrow.
Day 2

Sunrise yoga · pool day · in-villa spa

Wake when you wake. Optional sunrise yoga on the terrace (private instructor, 45 minutes, ocean view). Breakfast on the terrace – cut fruit, fresh juice, gallo pinto, espresso. Pool day – hammock, novel, swim. Mid-afternoon: in-villa couples or group massage in the pool palapa. Light dinner from the chef, candles outside, early-to-bed pace.

Day 3

Private chef tasting menu night

Slow morning. Pool. Optional beach walk at Playa Penca (the empty crescent down the coast). Back to the villa for the headline food night: the chef takes over the kitchen at 5pm and runs a 6-course tasting menu – amuse, ceviche, charcuterie, fresh-catch main, beef course, dessert – paired with wine. Slower meal, deeper conversation, candles, no rush. Best meal of the trip.
Day 4

Private beach picnic · sunset terrace cocktails

We move the day to the sand. Private beach picnic at Playa Conchal or Playa Danta – linen, umbrella, charcuterie board, fresh tropical fruit, chilled white wine. Three hours on the empty section of the beach. Late afternoon back at the villa. Sunset cocktails on the terrace – we send the bartender for the hour around golden hour. Late dinner at a beachfront restaurant we book ahead.

Whole-boat catamaran day (just your group)

The single outing of the week. Private catamaran from Marina Flamingo at 1pm – whole boat for your party. Anchor in a snorkel cove, swim, lunch on board, then re-anchor for the sunset off Conchal. Dolphins are common, mantas occasional. Back at the marina by 6:30pm. Casual dinner at the villa – the chef leaves you a simple plated thing in the warmer.
Day 6

Beachfront spa session · final chef night

Booked spa morning at a beachfront palapa – couples or group, two-hour ritual (massage + facial + scalp + foot ritual). Light lunch back at the villa. Afternoon at the pool. Final chef night: the request night – tell the chef on Day 1 what you want for the last dinner and they build it. Most groups ask for the steakhouse + lobster combo.

The view from the beach

Superyachts and private cruisers anchor off Playa Conchal, Las Catalinas, and Flamingo from December through April. You will see them at sunset from your villa terrace – and from the sand a 10-minute walk away.

Frequently asked questions

Is Costa Rica good for a luxury villa vacation?
It is one of the strongest villa-vacation destinations in the Americas. The Pacific Guanacaste coast (Tamarindo, Flamingo, Conchal, Las Catalinas, Langosta) has 200+ private luxury villas with ocean views and pools, full chef and spa supply, the most direct international airport access on the Pacific side (LIR), and a stable dry-season weather window December through April. The villa-plus-chef-plus-staff model on this coast is more genuinely private than any five-star Costa Rica resort can match.
How much does a luxury villa vacation in Costa Rica cost?
Mid-tier 7-night luxury villa escape: $15K-25K all-in for 2 people in a 3-bedroom villa, including transfers, chef nights, spa, catamaran charter, and groceries. Higher tier $30K-50K: oceanfront 5-6 bedroom villa with full staff, dedicated chef every night, multiple spa sessions, daily yoga, private boat day. Ultra luxury $60K+: full estate compound, butler service, private security, weekly programming custom-built.
What is the best area in Costa Rica for a luxury villa?
Pacific Guanacaste north of Tamarindo. Flamingo, Las Catalinas, Conchal, Potrero, and Brasilito form a 20-minute cluster with the highest concentration of beachfront luxury villas, the gold-coast restaurant scene, Marina Flamingo for boats, and the best dry-season weather. Specifically: Reserva Conchal and Las Catalinas at the high end, the gated communities around Playa Flamingo for mid-luxury, and Casa Cheetah-style boutique villas in the surrounding gold-coast neighborhoods.
Can you book the chef and staff included with the villa?
Yes – we wrap the staff into the package. Daily housekeeper, on-call chef, sunset bartender, and (on request) butler service. The chef builds custom menus, shops, cooks, serves, and cleans. Spa therapists come to the villa for in-villa sessions. The point is that nothing operational is on your shoulders for the week.
Best time of year for a luxury villa escape?
December through April is dry season – lowest rain risk, full vendor availability, the Pacific sunset every night. Peak inside that is mid-December to mid-January and mid-February through March (book 6-9 months ahead for those). May, June, and November are excellent shoulder months – prices drop, the green season looks beautiful at the villa, occasional afternoon shower.
How is this different from a five-star Costa Rica resort?
A resort gives you a room, a shared pool, a restaurant menu, and a programming desk. A luxury villa with us gives you a whole house, your own pool, your own kitchen with a chef who cooks what you want when you want, total privacy, and no schedule. For couples, friends groups, multi-generation family trips, or anyone who has done the resort thing already and wants the actual escape – the villa wins. The math is closer than people expect: two adjoining resort rooms with tours and drinks adds up faster than a villa with a chef.
Can you arrange wellness add-ons (sound bath, breathwork, plant medicine)?
Yes – wellness add-ons are a popular layer. Sunrise yoga on the terrace, sound bath in the pool palapa, breathwork sessions, ice-bath setup, group meditation, custom retreat programming for a group buyout. We do not arrange plant-medicine ceremonies. See our Wellness & Spa pillar for what is on the menu.
Do you book multi-generation family villa trips?
Yes – 5-6 bedroom villas can comfortably host grandparents, parents, and grandkids together. We add age-appropriate programming layers (kids beach day, grandparent slower-pace spa, parents catamaran). See Family Week for the family-oriented version of the itinerary.
Do we need a rental car for a luxury villa trip?
No. We arrange airport transfers and a private driver on demand for any restaurant nights or outings. Most of our luxury-villa weeks have zero rental-car days – it is part of the point. If you want a car for a single roam day, we book it and drop it at the villa.
How far in advance should we book?
For peak season (mid-December to mid-April), the best luxury villas book 6-9 months out. Shoulder season (May, June, November) works inside 8-12 weeks. The villa is always the bottleneck – we lock the right house first, then build the week around it.
